Dratini's evolution chart by HaanPere Dratini's evolution chart by HaanPere
Before you say anything, lemme tell you that this thing is badly outdated. Comments will not be replied to.

Yes, I do know none of the evos are water type. However, they live in/near water, thus aquatic anatomy. You're free to inform me they're not water type now.

So, I was talking with [link](Ty) and said that I was asked to make a realistic Dratini-Dragonair evolution chart and she, of course, thought that it was a great idea. So I started scribbling something, we talked a lot about the thing and she showed me someone else's version of the Dragonite which somewhat resembles this one.
She then said that she's rather keep the original Dragonite a beauty evolution or an item-trade evo. And heck, the item-trade sounded a pretty good idea and I instantly thought about the Dragon Claw as well as Dragon Scale (but claw's more badass, hurr).
And since Dratini's evos are all water-type, I decided to make the bodies look like they belong to that element, hence original!Dragonite's crocodile-esque limbs.

So here you have, my version of Dratini's evos. I hope you enjoy.

Pokemon Nintendo or something

Otherwise, neat picture.

I don't know if it's all apart of your concept, but NONE of the Dratini evo's are any part water. It's straight up dragon. With the exception of Dragonite who I think is part flying.

Although I DID say this: "Before you say anything, lemme tell you that this thing is badly outdated. Comments will not be replied to.", I'll reply this time.

Drati-family can be found exclusively from water(with the exception of dragonite, of course, since you'll only get it by trading/leveling up), so yes two years ago I did think it's a water-type. Not that others didn't already point that out years ago... >___>

Dratini was my first ever dragon Pokemon sense well the first game I used hacks to catch a dratini in all the games though i never did get it to the dragonite stage i was able to beat most games with a max level at 45. I love this chart it is so much better suited for dratini then what they went with.

It was my first dragon pokemon as well! I usually evolved it to Dragonite and leveled up to 70s or 80 just to be able to beat anything and eeverything. BD
Thanks! :D

I will say I like the maintaining of the colours through the evolutionary chain where as with traditional Pokemon the altered Dragonite to be tan/brown dragon... I also enjoy the feathered wing look. Colours I think should stay maintained amongst all level evolutions.

Your evolutionary chain makes more sense; they should've made Dragonite's form the result of a dragon claw, because that'll bring the "dragon" essence into Dratini and Dragonair's future evolution, while if left untouched - it would've turned into your version of Dragonite. I'm actually going to share this! :)

Here's a food for thought: [link] AND...Butterfry was supposed to be Venonat's evolutioon :3

Thank you very much! c: I've been about to update some of the things about this(mainly better anatomy and such), but it's always lovely to know about people liking this! ♥

Oh, and I know about those evo things. :D I've thought about drawing them, too, but haven't gotten myself to doing it.

I've thought this many many times and I like the alternate form, although I would have redesigned dragonair to make it look like it could have gone either way.

That was the first games they tried something with the dragon type which is why there was only those three dragons in the first game.... That being said I do like this. Although to me having dragonair holding a dragon scale would make more sense seeing how he changes color and whatnot. But thats my opinion.

This makes so much more sense. Dragonite always ticked me off, both cause he doesn't look like an evolution to the dratini and the fact that dragonair is graceful and dragonite is portrayed as....retarded ugh Buuuerrrr(noise dragonite makes in the show). But having the option to make him this form would make me happy.

I love 'the other' Dragonite! <D It looks great! And it is a very nice idea for dratini's evolution chain :P it would be with sense, beacuse dragonite isn't even similar to dragonair and dratini ^^'

The idea is certainly interesting, no doubt, but a nitpick:
"And since Dratini's evos are all water-type,..."
Since WHEN are any of the dratini line water type?

Also, that dratini is creepy.
And why does it have so much neck? I mean, snakes don't even have necks, but this dratini... almost half its body consists of neck, judging by the leg nub positioning.
Dragonite's horn doesn't look like a dragonite's horn.
No shading on dragonair's horn and your dragonite's eye make them look flat.
And why does the skin of it's ear curve out like that at the back? It's skin, I'd expect, and as it doesn't appear to be held out by any bone or cartilage it really shouldn't.

The wing design is bizarrre, but intriguing, however; I have no clue what's going on with dragonite's wing, but the other... ones... are.

On that... when you say "Original!dragonite"... which "original" do you mean?
The concept one you invented, or the original original dragonite? Because technically, both are 'original'...

Sorry if that makes little sense...

Geez, thanks for the super-angry comment.

So, read a bit of the comments in this picture. A million people have said about the type already so that's not worth my time to discuss about now.
That dratini is supposed to be creepy.
It has lots of neck because I decided so.
*facepalm*
The "ear" you are talking about is a wing. If you've taken SUCH a good look at this, it's really odd that you've missed so obvious thing.

Original!dragonite is the one from the games.

It makes little sense indeed and I can clearly see that you've gotten mad from a picture with pokemons. Why the hell does anyone get mad from a picture of pokemons anyway?

It sounded angry?
0`_0; Sorry

I read the first page of the comments, but no more, to be honest...

Well, if the intent was creepy-dratini, the effort payed off. The eye is disturbing.
'Because' is a good reason (I just... overthink anatomy...).

The ear I was talking about, despite being a wing (... that's... kind of obvious, actually, so yes, I was aware that it was a wing-ear/ear-wing)... if it was a normal ear, I wouldn't have mentioned it. Ears are cartilaginous, stiff in a way that wings aren't. Thus my comments about it.

Okay.

I repeat, sorry if I sounded mad...
I honestly didn't mean to, as it is a good picture.
... I just have a bad habit of nitpicking over little things (even in my own work- my pencil works often end up with erasing smudgings all through them)
I am not mad, save for the insanity sense of the word, and that's a constant with me.
And I don't know. I'm sure there are some people (People who don't like pokemon might, I suppose, but why the heck would they be looking at them in the first place?)

Yes, it did sound angry. But if you didn't mean it, then I apologize that I sounded rude in my reply.

I always read all the pages, I can gather so much more information that way, you see.

I never liked the super-cute dratini, it just didn't feel right that some dragon-snake would look like a cute little worm :/ So I made it as creepy as I could.
(not to mention how much I hated Dragonite's moomin-body, ew)

The ear-wing's big "index-finger" is pointing outwards, that's why the ears are pointing outwards. I did't really like the thought of a stiff wing.

It's okay. I guess it's just the whole "emotions get lost in internet"-thing. You said things in the "this is wrong, that is off"-way and it sounded a bit rude to me but since I can't see your face and know how you're saying things(and I had just had an argument), I must've overreacted <:/ So sorry about that.

I've seen people getting upset about the weirdest things, I wouldn't be surprised if someone got mad about a picture of a pokemon :U

It's fine (my own smilies, for their unique style, mean I loose out on possible expressions, so even there... I`_I)

... Are we even talking about the same part of the same ear-wing, though? I'm talking the elbow bit of blue dragonite's closest...

As the dratini looks like it wants to jump off the page and eat something that's floating just above my head in a potentially violent manner...
Moomin-body? If you're talking moomintroll or not, I now have a rather bizzare mental image.

Yeah... people probably get irritated with the way some individuals draw their favourites if they're done in a way completely contrary to what they think they are (though others still would start gushing)

Forgive my late reply, I haven't felt like talking lately :U

Yes, we're talking about the same ear-wing but unless it's about the feathers above elbow, I have no idea what you were talking about.

Yes, moomin-body. Big head, huge round snout and a fat body. I doubt that there's any other moomins than Moomintroll and his family O:

I completely understand.

Feathers?
No.
skull>'shoulder'>humerus>elbow>raduis/ulna>wrist>phalanges
That elbow, look at the skin to the right of it (the bit that stretched from skull to the ... ... 'pinky' (?) phalange.
It is rounded OUTWARDS- which, unless it it is made of cartilage, it really couldn't. And it's not.

Ah, righto (but you must admit "moomin-body" alone kind of looks like someone came along and replaced a swearword)

Ah, the skin. Well... that COULD have something to do with the pose of the finger affecting the whole skin-membrane instead of just a small bit. That's the finger that's pose affects to every bit of the wing :U Here [link] hope this explain what I mean.

Nnnnnno, I can't admit that, really :U Maybe you could elaborate a bit?

The 'non-traded' Dragonite looks awesome. It looks majestic yet deadly. Kinda wish this was a playable pokemon. :P

The dragon claw idea does make sense. It is strange that they went from a blue snake like creature to a freaking orange dragon one. o.o

All I can say about the change to the original!dragonite is that... Well, the designers were probably high and thought that it was a good idea. Even I wouldn't come up with a change that radical.
